When Ossie Schonfeld, the founder of Ossie’s Famous Fish, opened his Borough Park store nearly a half century ago, his goal was to provide customers with fresh, high quality fish at affordable prices. While the company, which is still owned by the Schonfeld family, now operates out of Gourmet Glatt Emporium (and its Brooklyn-based sister store, Gourmet Glatt Market), that mission remains unchanged.
“Because we buy our fish directly from top quality fisheries, our customers can be sure they are getting a great product every single time they make a purchase,” says manager Moshe Schonfeld.
Ossie’s carries a wide array of fresh fish – everything from salmon and whitefish to more “adventurous” choices like halibut, bronzini and Chilean sea bass. In addition to an on-site grilling option, the store also features many ready-to-cook fish dishes and an expansive selection of Ossie’s own sauces, dips, salads, sauces and fish rubs.
“There are so many incredibly delicious and healthful kinds of fish out there just waiting to be savored,” says Moshe. “And because our other mission is fish education, we’ll be happy to share plenty of ideas for preparing them.”
